Wine Tours

You can visit both the grapevines and the wine cellar accompanied by Cosimo Maria Masini's experts.

We offer a wine tour dedicated to natural wine-making and to the discovery of how to produce wine with full respect for the environment and its land.

After a walk through the rows of grapevines farmed according to biodynamic methods we reach the courtyard - during wine harvesting here it is possible to see open pan vinification - and the vinsantiera (the place where the fine dessert wine Vinsanto is produced). We then arrive at the cellar and enter the barique cellar, where our red wines are stored to refine. Each step is accompanied by descriptions and extra focus on the topics by enologists and sommeliers of the Cosimo Maria Masini, who will be pleased to answer and satisfy any curiosity.

The visit then continues to the garden of the villa which has famously seen among its residents the families of the Buonaparte and the Ridolfi, in particular Cosimo Ridolfi the founder of modern agronomy and of the Accademia dei Georgofili.

The tour, which lasts for about 1hour and a half, concludes at the NOW Shop with wine tasting (our own wines) combined with the chance to savour some local products.

Wine tours should be booked in advance. For information and to book an appointment please call +39 348 866 0098 or + 39 0571 465032, alternatively email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

The local area

The Cosimo Maria Masini is a short distance from San Minato, an old town in an evocative corner of Italy, an ideal point of departure for discovering classical Tuscany, without abandoning the possibility of enjoying the seaside.

Of Etruscan foundation, San Miniato is central to history of Tuscany: initially a stronghold of the Longobards, subsequently an imperial vicariate also dear to Frederick II of Swabia, then a free commune contended between Pisa and Florence, and finally Napoleonic land. Here in San Miniato in fact, and precisely on the estate where the Cosimo Maria Masini company is based, lived the Italian side of the Buonaparte family, to whom Napoleon turned to accredit his own noble origins. Fascinating memories that are found in churches, buildings and in the monasteries that are dotted around the hills.

Villa La Selva

Clearly ancient and noble are the orgins of Villa la Selva, where the Cosimo Maria Masini company is based. The first documented information on the manor house is found in the writings of Flaminio Buonaparte dating the house back to 1534. Later enlargement and reconstruction during the 1700s transformed the building into the villa as we see it today.

Farming of the olive groves and vineyards dates back to the same era. During the second half of the XIX century the property was taken over by the Ridolfi and it is indeed Cosimo Ridolfi who applied new innovative techniques of farming here and who built the wine cellar.

Recent restauration aimed at preservation and in harmony with the period style has now revived the villa to its the former splendor, enhanced by the cypress trees that surround it, the countryside, the centuries-old olive groves and the vineyards, and the splendid view over San Miniato and the Valdarno.
